MR GAY WORLD 2013 Antwerp, Belgium, ANNOUNCED

Mr. Gay World returns to Europe to join forces with the worldOutgames Antwerp 2013

Eric Butter, President & Co-Founder of Mr Gay World, Ltd.

Johannesburg, South Africa - April 6, 2012 -  The worldOutgames Antwerp 2013 and Mr Gay World organization are proud to collaborate on producing the fifth annual Mr Gay World competition in the beautiful city of Antwerp, Belgium. The election will be included in the 3 pillars of the worldOutgames, and will be held from August 1st - 5th 2013, with the Grand Finale closing off the first weekend of celebrations of the worldOutgames on August 5th with a spectacular show.
President of MGW, Eric Butter said, "We are proud to be working with the worldOutgames as we both have similar objectives in creating opportunities for us to share that Gay Rights are Human Rights.  Next year part of the competition will be participation in the worldOutgames "EQuality Forum" Human Rights conference that will help our delegates learn from industry leaders, be inspired, make global contacts and to share their own stories as well as participation in Sports and Cultural festival."
Co-founder of the worldOutgames Antwerp 2013, Jerko Bozikovic, stated "We are extremely proud to join our forces since both organizations share similar values, therefore it seemed only logical for us to collaborate in creating a high standard, life changing, and fun event.  We look forward welcoming everyone to Antwerp in August 2013."
A delegation of the worldOutgames Antwerp is now in South-Africa to attend the Mr. Gay World 2012 election, making contacts with delegates, organization and handing over of the flag. They will also meet with human rights activists and LGBT sports organizations.

The Belgian embassy and the Belgian ambassador Mr. Johan  Maricou in South Africa also hosted a well-attended reception at the residence of the Belgian Consul, Mr. Karl Stouthuysen in honour of worldOutgames Antwerp 2013 and the Mr. Gay World 2012 election with its Grand Finale being held in Johannesburg on April 8th 2012.
The mission of Mr. Gay World (MGW) is to advance national and international gay rights through education and public performance.  MGW creates authentic leaders who will take responsibility, not only in his own community but on a global stage, speaking out for equal rights by inspiring those around him.  MGW is a genuine and positive role model that will champion equality and diversity in the media both gay and mainstream.

About Mr. Gay World ( MrGayWorld.org )
The Mr. Gay World Competition is the Twenty First Century beauty contest where the delegates represent their nation as the best spokesperson and embody the spirit of their nation.   The delegate chosen to represent his peers on a global stage will not only have the inner beauty of confidence, self assurance, charisma and natural leadership abilities but he will also take care in his outward beauty. Click to read more...

About:  The worldOutgames are a global event organised by the LGBT community, and where everyone is welcome to attend. It rests on 3 equally important pillars:
Sports - The worldOutgames are a 4-yearly global sports championship for 35 different sports. Competition is for both amateur and semi-professional athletes. Participants are divided according to age and/or level of experience. There is special attention for homo- and transphobia in sport.

Culture - The worldOutgames also offer an international cultural platform. There will be an opening and closing ceremony, a Rainbow and Women's Village, exhibitions, theatre, spirituality and yoga, many parties, etc. Plenty of educational creativity will assure that there is something for everyone.
Human rights - The unique character of the worldOutgames undoubtedly lies in the largest global human rights conference with specific attention to LGBT rights. An international group of experts is being assembled, and keynote speakers are invited for the various themes. The conference will culminate in the "Declaration of Antwerp", a roadmap to strategic alliances necessary for progress for the period 2013 - 2018.
All this makes for a large scale professional event, in which tolerance, diversity, hospitality, social innovation, sport, culture and fun are central.
In 2006 (Montreal) and 2009 (Copenhagen), the first two editions of the worldOutgames were held, and Antwerp will host the third edition in 2013. The worldOutgames are however part of a long tradition of Games for the LGBT community, with its roots in the early 1980s.
The worldOutgames are from Wednesday July 31st - Sunday August 11th 2013.

buegay - Alfredo Ferreyra - MR. GAY NAMIBIA Assaulted - MEDIA Release

 MEDIA Release
 For Immediate Release
 MR. GAY NAMIBIA Assaulted
Mr. Gay World delegate elect from Namibia brutally assaulted near his home in Katutura, Windhoek, Namibia

Sydney, Australia - December 8th, 2011 Wendelinus Hamutenya, Mr Gay Namibia title holder, on Sunday evening , 04 December 2011, was physically assaulted near his residence in Katutura, Windhoek, in what can be described as a brutal "mugging" with monetary gain as incentive.

Hamutenya arrived home around 22:00 from visiting with friends. He was dropped off at the corner of his street of residence and made the short walk up the road to his home, when noticing two men sitting at the further end of the road, visible by street light. As he neared his house, the men approached him and requested "the money (he) won at the Mr Gay competition". After a short confrontation one of the perpetrators kicked Hamutenya to the ground, while the other aimed for his mobile phone and wallet. Several blows were exchanged between Hamutenya and his attackers. In the end blows from a cold drink bottle from one of the two men to Hamuntenya's head, face, chin and ribs saw him hospitalized for observation at a Windhoek private clinic for 24 hours.

The culprits made off with approximately N$200 in cash.

Contrary to some media publications, Wendelinus reiterates that this incident and his position as title holder to Mr Gay Namibia should not be confused and used to fuel unnecessary agendas.

"Violence in various forms occurs to persons from different walks of life in our country. The relevance of this incident may have connotation to my title, perhaps they thought I had heaps of "prize money" in my pockets. Likely it was my sexual orientation that made me a target - even my political support that angered them. Or perhaps, and most likely, it was just plain and simply out of greed," states Hamuntenya.

What remains relevant is that any person, no matter race, gender, orientation and/or ethnicity has the right to safety and should not feel threatened when walking down his/her own street of residence any time of the day.

The Mr Gay Namibia Board condemns this violent act of assault, but also reaffirms that "we are in sensitive times and we should focus on the facts. Propaganda, misinterpretation and wrong reporting on matters will not suffice - factual and mature deliberation on matters is what is needed to embrace the future."

While a case of assault has been opened with Namibian Police on this incident, Wendelinus remains focused on his participation at the Mr Gay World event in South Africa next year, confirming that his vision and dream for a sensitized and more accepting Namibia towards human rights in terms of sexual orientation remains his core focus.

Hamutenya was crowned the first-ever Mr. Gay Namibia at the end of November at a ceremony in Windhoek, making the country only the second African nation, other than South Africa, to hold a 'Mr. Gay' competition.  The regional director for Africa, Coenie Kukkuk said, "the incident could hamper efforts by Mr. Gay World to secure more African delegates for the Johannesburg event in April. Currently, only competitors from South Africa and Namibia have been confirmed."

Questions and/or information relating to the above brief can be directed in writing to the Public Relations Office of the Mr Gay Namibia Board at info@mrgaynamibia.com
